Florida Atlantic University is set to hire Texas Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley as its new head coach, according to a source familiar with the decision. The school is finalizing the details of the hiring, with Kittley expected to take over from former coach Tom Herman, who was fired two weeks ago.
Kittley previously served as offensive coordinator at Houston Baptist and Western Kentucky before returning to Texas Tech in 2022 in the same role. During his time at Texas Tech, the team has had one of the top offenses in the country, averaging 435 yards per game over the past three seasons and ranking among the nation’s best in key offensive categories this season.
Kittley has also played a role in coaching notable players like Patrick Mahomes during his time at Texas Tech. The Owls, who went 3-9 this season, will be looking to turn around their recent losing record under Kittley’s leadership.
The hiring of Kittley marks a new era for Florida Atlantic football, following the departure of Lane Kiffin in 2019. The team will be looking to build on Kittley’s successful track record as they aim to improve their standing in the college football landscape.
