Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was fired after a botched timeout in a loss to the Detroit Lions. Eberflus, who had a 14-32 record in two-plus seasons with the Bears, was let go as the team fell to 4-8 with their sixth straight loss. Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will serve as interim coach. The Bears had high hopes for the season, eyeing a playoff spot after drafting quarterback Caleb Williams and acquiring receiver Keenan Allen. However, the team is now last in the NFC North. Eberflus’ game management came under scrutiny as the Bears suffered several last-minute losses. The final straw came on Thanksgiving when poor clock management ended their comeback attempt in a loss to the Lions. Eberflus’ tenure was marked by turnover on his staff, and despite keeping his job after a strong finish in the previous season, the Bears have chosen to move on from him now. General manager Ryan Poles thanked Eberflus for his dedication and professionalism in a statement announcing the decision. The Bears will now look to regroup under interim coach Brown as they aim to salvage the remainder of the season.
