Yannick Noah, the former French Open champion and tennis celebrity, has been appointed as the new head of France’s para tennis starting next year. The French tennis federation announced that Noah will oversee wheelchair, visually-impaired, and deaf and hard-of-hearing tennis activities. After coaching the France men’s wheelchair tennis team at the Paralympic Games in Paris, Noah will focus on structuring and developing para tennis programs across the country.
Noah, the last Frenchman to win a Grand Slam singles title, has had an illustrious career reaching No. 3 in the ATP rankings and captaining both the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams to championships. In 2005, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Noah expressed his excitement for the new role, emphasizing his personal connection to the mission.
Having already been involved in disability tennis at the Paralympics, Noah’s appointment signals a new chapter in his career and a commitment to supporting and advancing para tennis in France. The French tennis federation has high hopes for Noah and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the sport. Noah’s experience and leadership are expected to bring new opportunities and growth to the para tennis community in France.
