Israeli airstrike targets Lebanon on Day 2 of the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire, with scattered attacks reported

Israel carried out its first airstrike on Lebanon since a truce with Hezbollah was announced this week. The airstrike targeted a rocket storage facility in southern Lebanon that breached the ceasefire. Although there were reports of Israeli mortar attacks and shots fired, with two people wounded, the overall ceasefire held. Lebanese troops began to deploy in parts of southern Lebanon and other areas, with checkpoints being set up to help displaced civilians return to their homes. Despite this progress, there were reports of Israeli ceasefire violations, with the Lebanese army accusing Israel of conducting strikes and patrolling Lebanese skies. Hezbollah did not issue any public statements on the violations but expressed their right to self-defense. The truce, brokered by the United States and France, calls for an initial two-month ceasefire and the withdrawal of militants north of the Litani River and Israeli forces to return to their side of the border. The buffer zone will be patrolled by U.N. peacekeepers and Lebanese troops. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has caused significant destruction in Lebanon, with many displaced families returning home to devastated neighborhoods. Israeli military chief of staff Lt. Gen. Herzl Halevi warned that any deviation from the agreement would be enforced with fire, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of civilians in border communities. Despite the ceasefire, the situation remains fragile, with ongoing tensions and potential for further violence.
