Leader of White supremacist prison gang accused of assaulting two California prison officers

In Los Angeles, a white supremacist prison gang leader, Ronald D. Yandell, has been accused of attempting to homicide two officers at the California State Prison in Sacramento. Yandell allegedly attacked the officers with an improvised weapon as they were transferring him back to his cell after a health appointment. Fortunately, no staff members were injured as Yandell dropped the weapon after being pepper-sprayed and restrained.

Yandell is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter and has been at the prison since 2004. The case will be referred to the district attorney’s office for possible felony prosecution. The Aryan Brotherhood, a violent white supremacist gang, was formed in California state prisons in the late 1960s and has since spread to the federal prison system.

Yandell was also charged in 2019 for the killing of several inmates, including a rival gang member and Aryan Brotherhood associates. He was found guilty of murder, conspiracy, and drug trafficking charges. Yandell and his cellmate were accused of overseeing a significant drug trafficking operation using smuggled-in cellphones. They also controlled the membership of the Aryan Brotherhood.

One of the inmates killed at Yandell’s direction was Hugo Pinell, a leader of the Black Guerilla Family gang and member of the San Quentin 6. Pinell was killed days after being moved out of isolation. Authorities have been working to dismantle the Aryan Brotherhood for years, and Yandell’s latest incident is a reminder of the gang’s violent nature and criminal activities.
