Bart and Homer Simpson Join “Monday Night Football” for a Unique Telecast
Bristol, Conn. – In a groundbreaking crossover event, beloved characters Bart and Homer Simpson will feature in an alternate telecast of the “Monday Night Football” game on December 9, where the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Dallas Cowboys. Dubbed “The Simpsons Funday Football,” this special broadcast will take place from Atoms Stadium in Springfield and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ and Disney+.
ESPN is expanding its innovative approach to NFL broadcasts after a successful alternate telecast last year utilizing characters from “Toy Story” during a game in London. This year, viewers can expect Bart to back the Bengals while Homer cheers for the Cowboys, with additional appearances by other fan-favorite characters like Marge, Lisa, and Maggie. Producers of “The Simpsons” will create original content for the telecast that will be aired before, during, and after the game.
The exciting aspect of this telecast is its fully animated format, where the movements of the animated characters will sync with live game action, thanks to player-tracking data provided by the NFL’s Next Gen Stats system and Beyond Sports. Beyond Sports, a Netherlands-based company, will oversee the animation, ensuring a seamless integration between real-time player data and the animated broadcast.
ESPN’s alternate broadcasts have proven to be a hit, building on the success of concepts like the “ManningCast” during “Monday Night Football.” As the NFL continues to explore creative ways to engage fans, “The Simpsons Funday Football” promises to be a memorable experience combining sports and animated entertainment.
