Northwest High School in Montgomery County held a meeting with parents after a 16-year-old student, Jaiden Ochieng, was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school. Ochieng is also facing charges related to a second shooting in Germantown. Police say Ochieng was involved in a shooting on Crystal Rock Drive in August, where he allegedly shot at a victim who managed to escape without injury. The handgun used in the shooting was confirmed to be Ochieng’s, who had reported it lost in Prince George’s County.
During the meeting at Northwest High School, parents expressed frustration with school officials over the incident and raised concerns about safety measures in place to prevent such incidents from happening again. Ochieng now faces additional charges, including attempted first-degree murder, motor vehicle theft, and various firearms-related offenses. He is being charged as an adult and is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
The meeting highlighted the need for improved communication between the school and parents, as well as the importance of implementing stricter security measures to ensure the safety of students and staff. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incidents involving Ochieng and are working to ensure that students feel safe and secure at school.
