D.C. Shadow Representative Oye Owolewa is pushing for increased traffic safety measures in Ward 8 after being hospitalized for a week following a serious crash earlier this month. Owolewa, who suffered a concussion and neck and back sprains, is frustrated with the lack of progress in implementing the Vision Zero plan in his community. He believes that installing traffic lights and intersection cameras could help prevent collisions and increase accountability for hit-and-run crashes. Owolewa wants to see improvements in traffic safety to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future. The crash, which involved Owolewa’s Porsche sedan and a GMC SUV, occurred on Alabama Avenue Southeast, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Despite his injuries, Owolewa is determined to return to work and use his experience to advocate for better traffic safety measures in Ward 8.
