FDNY Shuts Down ‘Death Trap’ Haunting in Hollis in NYC

The New York City Fire Department shut down the haunted house “A Haunting in Hollis” in Queens due to multiple safety violations, including illegally constructed staircases, blocked exit routes, and removed fireproofing materials. FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker stated that the house was a “death trap” and emphasized the importance of celebrating Halloween safely. The haunted house, in operation since 2002, plans to reopen by Oct. 18 after addressing the safety requirements set by the Department of Buildings and FDNY. The business issued refunds for purchased tickets and currently has no future availability for booking. Solainne Moncero-Tannis filed a lawsuit against the haunted house after allegedly breaking both ankles during a visit in 2023. The haunted house appeared on “The Nick Cannon Show” in 2021 but is now facing legal and safety challenges as it tries to resume operations.
