Howard University commemorates centennial homecoming anniversary

Howard University’s medical school has received a generous gift of $175 million from Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative. This gift was part of a larger initiative that also benefitted three other historically Black medical schools. In addition to this exciting news, Howard University is gearing up for their 100th anniversary homecoming celebration set to take place from October 13-20, 2024. The theme for this centennial celebration is “Yard of Fame,” highlighting the impactful legacy of Howard University’s students and faculty over the years.

The week-long celebration will feature a variety of events including the Royal Court Coronation, Student Fashion Show, Greek Step Show, Yardfest, and a football game against Tennessee State University. Forbes recently named Howard University as the top historical Black college or university in the nation, adding to the excitement of the upcoming homecoming celebrations. However, this year’s festivities will be without the traditional Homecoming Tailgate Party, as the university aims to create a more unique and family-friendly experience for attendees.

Howard University President Ben Vinson III, PhD, will be sitting down for an interview with FOX 5’s Stephen Graddick to discuss the centennial homecoming and the university’s achievements. Throughout the week, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in various activities throughout D.C. This highly anticipated event is expected to draw in a large crowd, as it has in past years, with the university hoping to create a memorable and impactful celebration for all who attend.
