Dan Snyder having difficulty offloading two expensive properties in the Washington DC region

Former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder’s Potomac mansion is once again making headlines as the American Cancer Society has listed the estate for $34 million. Despite being part of a thriving ultra-luxury real estate market, Snyder has struggled to find buyers for both this property and his Fairfax County estate, which is listed for $60 million.

The Potomac mansion, once owned by Jordan’s King Hussein, was donated to the American Cancer Society by the Snyders in March. Despite multiple price cuts, including a reduction to $29.9 million in September, the property remains unsold. In 2021, Snyder set a local record with the purchase of an estate in Fairfax County for $48 million. The couple hoped to break that record in 2022 by listing their Potomac home for $49 million.

Snyder’s Fairfax County property, located on part of George Washington’s original Mt. Vernon estate, is priced at over $3,700 per square foot, which has also deterred buyers. The challenges faced by Snyder in selling his multimillion-dollar properties demonstrate the unpredictability of the luxury real estate market, even in the midst of a booming industry.

Despite the setbacks, Snyder remains determined to find buyers for his estates and set new records in the process. With the properties continuing to linger on the market, only time will tell if Snyder’s ambitious price points will pay off.
