The human rights ombudsman in Ukraine has called on international organizations to investigate claims that several Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed by Russian troops in the Kursk region. DeepState, a Ukrainian battlefield analysis site, reported that nine Ukrainian “drone operators and contractors” were shot and killed after surrendering. The ombudsman sent letters to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the claim and condemned the actions as a crime committed by Russia.
In addition to this, the Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 31 out of 68 drones launched by Russia in various regions of Ukraine. They also noted strikes by ballistic missiles and guided air missiles in Odesa, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Sumy, with no reported casualties or damage. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had launched a significant number of aerial bombs, missiles, and drones against Ukraine over the past week, calling on Ukraine’s allies to provide necessary air defense systems.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported shooting down 13 Ukrainian drones over three regions bordering Ukraine. Russian officials have not responded to the claims of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The situation reinforces the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with heightened tensions and military activities in the region. The international community is urged to take action to address these violations of human rights and international law.
