Cole Caufield nets two goals as Canadiens defeat Senators 4-1

The Montreal Canadiens secured a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators with goals from Emil Heineman and Cole Caufield in the first period. Alex Newhook and Caufield added two more goals in the third period, while Tim Stutzle scored the lone goal for the Senators. Goalie Sam Montembeault made 24 saves after an impressive 48-save performance in the season opener. The Canadiens dominated on the power play, scoring a goal with the man advantage and holding the Senators to three shots on goal during four power plays.

Despite a struggling power play in previous seasons, Montreal has found success with power-play goals in each of their first three regular-season games, including Heineman’s first NHL goal. The Canadiens will look to build on this strong start as they prepare to face the Pittsburgh Penguins next. The Senators, on the other hand, will host the Los Angeles Kings in their upcoming game.

Montembeault faced increased pressure in the second period when the Senators outshot the Canadiens 12-3, showcasing his abilities as a reliable goalie for Montreal. A key moment in the game was when defenseman Mike Matheson was awarded a penalty shot, but Ottawa’s goalie Linus Ullmark made the save to prevent any further goals. The game was an overall success for the Canadiens, who look to continue their winning streak in upcoming matchups.
