The 6th District congressional race in Maryland has heated up recently, with candidates Neil Parrott and April McClain Delaney engaging in a tense exchange at a candidates forum. Parrott accused McClain Delaney of interrupting him and walked away from the discussion. The two candidates traded sharp words, with McClain Delaney focusing on Parrott’s record and stance on abortion.
Parrott, on the other hand, defended himself against what he called lies from McClain Delaney. He also highlighted his endorsement by Frederick County Sheriff Charles Jenkins, who is currently facing federal charges.
The Maryland Democratic Party criticized Parrott for choosing to be endorsed by Jenkins due to his legal issues. Parrott and Jenkins also brought up the fact that McClain Delaney does not live in the 6th District, although legally she is allowed to run for office regardless of her residency.
With current seat holder David Trone not seeking re-election, the race for the 6th District seat is tight. Political science professor Todd Eberly highlighted the absence of an incumbent with deep pockets as an advantage for the GOP in flipping the seat red.
Voters will have another opportunity to hear from the candidates at a chamber of commerce forum in Hagerstown. The race for the 6th District seat remains competitive as Democrats try to retain control while Republicans aim to secure a win.
