The Facebook post claiming that Kamala Harris visited the US southern border for the first time in September 2024 is false. Harris actually visited the border in 2021 during a trip to Texas. During her visit to Douglas, Arizona in September 2024, she walked along the border, met with officials, and gave a speech about border security and immigration reform. Harris was never in charge of the border, but was tasked with leading the administration’s diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of migration in Central American countries. This trip was her second as vice president, with her first visit to the southern border being in June 2021 in El Paso, Texas. Various news outlets covered her visits and the Facebook post incorrectly claimed it was her first trip since becoming the Democratic nominee for president.
