Claims that the federal government did not respond to Hurricane Helene or planned to seize communities like Chimney Rock have been exposed as false. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have actively supported recovery efforts, dispelling rumors about inadequate response or plans to seize property.
Misinformation about FEMA providing only a $750 loan, diverting funds to other causes, and destroying aid supplies have also been refuted. FEMA assistance does not need to be repaid, and funds are dedicated solely to disaster-related efforts.
The spread of false information has hindered relief efforts and clouded the situation for those impacted by the hurricanes. Federal, state, and local officials urge the public to fact-check information to ensure accurate reporting and effective disaster recovery.
