Former President Donald Trump endorsed Bibles called “God Bless the USA” were printed in China, despite Trump’s criticism of U.S.-China trade. About 120,000 copies were shipped from China to the U.S., valued at less than $3 per Bible. The product is known as the “Trump Bible” due to Trump’s endorsement. Trump’s policy stance has been critical of China, which was highlighted during his presidency when the U.S. engaged in a trade war with China. Trump has also been known to refer to COVID-19 as the “Chinese virus,” which has been criticized as racist. Trump has called for more manufacturing and economic development in the U.S. during his campaign trail.
In Oklahoma, there was controversy over plans to provide 55,000 Bibles to public school classrooms, with vendor requirements initially closely resembling the “Trump Bible.” Legal experts raised concerns about these requirements potentially benefiting one political candidate, violating the Oklahoma constitution. The vendor requirements were later revised to allow the inclusion of other documents like the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign has also seen the promotion of collectible items to help cover campaign expenses and legal fees. The “God Bless the USA” Bibles are just one example of these spin-off enterprises. Despite Biden keeping many of Trump’s tariffs on China in place, Trump has continued to push for increased tariffs on Chinese imports.
