Fitness icon Richard Simmons was buried in his signature tank top and shorts, the outfit he sported for most of his career, according to his brother Lenny Simmons. Lenny shared this revelation during Richard’s celebration of life held at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. Richard, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 76, was known for his pioneering aerobics workouts and his fitness studio Slimmons. His cause of death was revealed to be accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease. The celebration of life also shed light on a family battle over his estate with his housekeeper Teresa Reveles.
Reveles filed a petition to be restored as a co-trustee of Richard’s estate after allegedly being pressured by Lenny and his wife, Cathy, to relinquish her role. She also sought legal action to prevent Lenny from using Richard’s likeness and image for personal profit. Richard’s family responded, expressing disappointment in Reveles’ actions and stating that they are working to preserve Richard’s legacy. Richard was known for promoting joy and positivity through his weight-loss programs and aerobics videos, such as Sweatin’ to the Oldies.
Richard had shared a thank you message to his fans on Facebook one day before his death, expressing gratitude for the birthday messages he received. The late fitness icon’s influence and impact can be seen through his enduring legacy and the love and support he received from fans around the world.
