A municipal court in Ohio has announced that it will not issue arrest warrants for former President Donald Trump or Sen. JD Vance after a nonprofit sought to file charges against them for spreading false claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield. The City of Springfield officials in Ohio stated that the matter has been referred to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. The claims made by Vance on social media and repeated by Trump during a presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris have been debunked by local and state officials. Despite this, the central Ohio city of 60,000 has faced issues such as bomb threats and poor school attendance as a result of the situation gaining national media attention. The charges were filed by the Haitian Bridges Alliance, a nonprofit based in San Diego that advocates for migrants and immigrants, especially in the Black and Haitian communities. The organization is represented by former federal prosecutor Subodh Chandra, who is now an attorney in Cleveland. Chandra previously ran for the Democratic nomination for Ohio attorney general in 2006.
