Royce White, Senate candidate in Minnesota, faces backlash for past WWII comments

Royce White, a former NBA player and current candidate for Minnesota’s U.S. Senate seat, sparked controversy when a resurfaced social media post from 2022 showed him stating that “the bad guys won World War II.” White, who is running against incumbent Sen. Amy Klobuchar, received backlash for his comments, with critics pointing out the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during the war. White responded to the resurfaced tweet by criticizing the post-WWII reconstruction of the global economy and accusing liberals of supporting war and crony capitalism. Polls show that White is behind Klobuchar by 11 points. White has previously faced controversy for allegedly using campaign funds at a strip club, being transphobic, and positioning himself as more right-wing than former President Donald Trump. Despite his controversial statements and actions, White continues to campaign for the Senate seat. A Minnesota native, White previously ran for the House of Representatives in 2022 but failed to advance past the Republican primary. He played three games in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings and was drafted in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.
