Miriam Ortiz, the grieving mother of 19-year-old Christian, who was found shot dead in a Silver Spring park just days before his birthday, spoke out about the tragic loss to FOX 5. Ortiz had planned a surprise celebration for her son’s birthday but instead, she received the devastating news that he had been killed. She expressed her pain and heartbreak, revealing her years-long struggle to get Christian help with drugs, which she says are a significant issue in her community. The shooting occurred late at night when police responded to reports of gunshots in the Seek Lane Neighborhood Park. Despite efforts to save him, Christian died at the scene. Ortiz is actively involved in seeking help for the community’s gang and opioid problems, reaching out to politicians and visiting Annapolis to address the drug and violence crisis. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and no suspect descriptions have been released to the public. The investigation is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a young life tragically taken too soon.
