NASA and SpaceX are preparing for the Crew-9 mission, with astronauts Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov set to launch aboard a Dragon spacecraft on Saturday. The launch was delayed due to Hurricane Helene, but is now scheduled for 1:17 p.m. EDT from the Space Launch Complex-40. Once in orbit, the crew will spend about five months on the International Space Station, conducting experiments and spacewalks to prepare for future missions. The Crew-9 mission marks the ninth crew rotation mission to the station under NASA’s commercial crew program. Hague and Gorbunov are the two astronauts heading into orbit, with Zena Cardman and Stephanie Wilson eligible for reassignment on a future mission.NASA will provide coverage of the launch, docking, and activities leading up to the mission on NASA+ and their website. FLORIDA TODAY will also provide live coverage. The Crew-9 mission will bring Starliner astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore back to Earth in February. The two astronauts aboard the Dragon will relieve Crew-8 currently on the space station. The launch was delayed after complications with the Starliner spacecraft, but after its safe return, the Dragon has been cleared for takeoff. Hague, a NASA astronaut and U.S. Space Force colonel, will be the crew commander, while Gorbunov, a Roscosmos cosmonaut, will be a mission specialist.
