Former oil and gas executive Jordi Zonneveld is leading the charge in the transition to green hydrogen as a clean energy source, driven by his desire for a better future for his three daughters. After realizing the environmental impact of fossil fuels in the oil and gas industry, Zonneveld pivoted his company, Frames Group, towards the production of green hydrogen by splitting water using clean electricity instead of relying on fossil fuels. This move towards clean energy caught the attention of Plug Power, a clean energy company focused on hydrogen and fuel cells, leading to an acquisition in 2021.
The merger with Plug Power has allowed Zonneveld to further his vision of producing over 1,000 tons per day of green hydrogen globally this decade. Despite challenges, including volatile stock prices and lack of profitability, Plug Power has secured big customers like Amazon and received support from the Biden administration in the form of tax credits for producing clean hydrogen. Zonneveld’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in moving Frames Group away from the oil and gas industry and towards a greener future.
Zonneveld’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy has had a personal impact on his family as well. He drives a hydrogen car, educating his eldest daughter about the importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuels. As Zonneveld’s daughters grow older, he hopes they will be proud of the change he has made to help create a better world for future generations.
