Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign changed plans for an outdoor event in rural western Wisconsin to an indoor appearance due to staffing shortages from the Secret Service. The agency raised concerns about its ability to secure the event, citing personnel and equipment limits caused by an increased operational tempo, including the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York. The change came after Trump faced assassination attempts at previous events. Despite threats from Iran and heightened security concerns, Congress approved additional funding for the Secret Service. Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson criticized the agency’s transparency in the investigation of the attempts on Trump’s life. Despite these challenges, Trump is expected to focus on immigration and crime during his stop in western Wisconsin.
