The majority of small businesses are utilizing an AI-enabled software tool


As the use of artificial intelligence expands, a recent survey indicates that nearly every small business, or 98%, is utilizing AI-enabled tools. This represents a significant increase from previous years, with 40% of small businesses now using generative AI tools like chatbots and image creation. Small business owners report that finding the right AI tools not only helps save on personnel costs but also frees up time, allowing them to compete with larger competitors.

Jordan Crenshaw, senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber’s Technology Engagement Center, notes that AI allows small businesses to “punch above their weight” by leveraging technology to drive innovation and resilience. Randy Speckman, owner of a web design agency, shares his success story of using AI tools like Conversion.ai and Copy.ai to generate content, saving time and improving production quality without the need to hire additional staff.

The survey also shows that 91% of small businesses believe AI will help their business grow in the future, with many planning to adopt emerging technologies like AI and the metaverse. Amanda Reineke, owner of a digital compliance company, emphasizes that AI can drive major efficiencies when implemented thoughtfully by domain experts.

Overall, the survey found that more small businesses are leveraging technology platforms, with 47% using four or more technology platforms and over a quarter using six or more. Small business owners like Jan Watermann, owner of a marketing agency, are utilizing AI tools to quickly generate content and optimize it for search engines, while emphasizing the importance of human oversight for best results.
