Royals Capitalize on Throwing Error in Extra Innings to Secure 1-0 Victory Over Nationals, Maintain Hold on 2nd AL Wild Card Spot

In a tight game on Tuesday night, the Kansas City Royals managed to break their 27-inning scoreless streak with a 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals in extra innings. Kyle Isbel scored the winning run on a throwing error in the 10th inning, ending the Royals’ seven-game losing streak. Despite struggling to hit with runners in scoring position, the Royals secured the win. Cole Ragans pitched six strong innings, allowing only three hits to keep the Nationals off the board.

The win puts the Royals in a good position for the second American League wild card spot, tied with the Detroit Tigers at 83-74 but holding the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams are two games ahead of the Minnesota Twins. The Nationals, on the other hand, have lost seven of their last eight games.

The game saw solid performances from both teams, with Lucas Erceg getting the save for the Royals and Kris Bubic and Sam Long contributing scoreless innings leading up to the extra frame. The Royals are optimistic about the performance of their pitcher, Ragans, who has a 1.08 ERA in September.

In terms of injuries, the Royals have shut down RHP Hunter Harvey for the season due to a back issue, while RHP Michael Lorenzen is set to return from the injured list. The Nationals have recalled OF Stone Garrett from Triple-A.

Looking ahead, Lorenzen will start for the Royals in the next game, while rookie DJ Herz will take the mound for the Nationals. The teams are gearing up for a competitive series as the season nears its conclusion.
