Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels leads the Commanders to a historic victory

Washington’s rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had a historic performance in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals, setting a rookie record by completing 91.3% of his passes. The Commanders have scored on every drive over the past two weeks, becoming the first team in the Super Bowl era to have no punts or turnovers in consecutive games. Daniels led 14 straight scoring drives, a feat matched only by New Orleans’ Derek Carr in recent history.

The Kansas City Chiefs have won six straight games by seven points or fewer, becoming the fifth team in history to do so. Despite their narrow wins, they have outscored their opponents by 54 points during the streak, the lowest point differential among teams with at least nine straight wins in NFL history.

In an unusual statistical quirk, Detroit Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs scored a receiving touchdown without catching a pass on a hook-and-ladder play. Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Andy Dalton led his team to victory with 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions in his career against the Las Vegas Raiders.

On the downside, Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence lost his eighth straight start, joining Jim Plunkett as the only other first-pick QB with multiple distinct losing streaks. Lawrence is three losses away from tying the longest losing streak for a first-pick quarterback, currently held by Troy Aikman.
