Family of University of Texas student and his wife seeks assistance in locating them as they have gone missing in Mexico.

Family and friends are seeking help in locating University of Texas doctoral student Frank Guzman and his wife Caroline Katba, who have been missing since late July. The couple was traveling in Mexico on their way to Chile for Frank’s research when they went offline on July 22, losing contact with their families. Concern grew when Guzman did not show up to class at UT, and the families have been unable to reach them since then. The pair was last seen in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, and there is no record of them leaving the country as planned. Guzman has filed missing person reports in both Mexico and Texas, and contacted the U.S. Embassy and FBI for assistance.

Guzman is an anthropology student at UT, and Katba is in the process of opening a business. UT spokesperson Mike Rosen stated that the university would provide assistance in locating and assisting the missing students. Guzman is urging anyone with connections to the area to spread word of the missing couple and to contact the family with any information.

The families are worried as Guzman has put years of effort into his degree and would not just disappear. They emphasize that the couple had plans and goals for their trip and would not vanish without a reason. The families are asking for the public’s help in finding Frank Guzman and Caroline Katba.
