Austin King, a 22-year-old park employee, went missing in Yellowstone National Park after failing to return from a solo excursion to Eagle Peak. He was last heard from on Tuesday, September 17, when he called from the summit. Search and rescue efforts began when he didn’t return for his boat pickup on Friday. His camp and personal items were found, prompting a larger search involving ground teams, helicopters, drones, and search dogs. Despite efforts, King remains missing.
King, a concession worker at Yellowstone, was dropped off by boat at Yellowstone Lake for a week-long hike to summit Eagle Peak. Two days into his hike, he spoke to a ranger at Howell Creek cabin. When last in contact, he described challenging weather conditions. Search teams are concentrating efforts around Eagle Peak and have expanded to areas like Shoshone National Forest.
The National Park Service has circulated photos and information about King, including his physical description and the clothing he was last seen in. They are seeking information from anyone who may have crossed paths with him since September 14. Anyone with information can contact the Yellowstone Interagency Communications Center.
Rescuers continue their search for Austin King in Yellowstone National Park, hoping for information from other hikers who may have seen him. The park service is committed to finding King and ensuring his safe return.
