The St. Louis community is grieving the loss of Police Officer David Lee, who was killed in a tragic accident on Sunday. Lee, an 18-year veteran of the department, was working a crash on Interstate 70 when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver. The victim from the initial crash used Lee’s radio to call for help, and he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. However, he tragically passed away during the surgery.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones expressed her condolences during a press conference, calling Lee’s death “unfair and unjust.” She met with his grieving family, including his wife, mother, mother-in-law, and two children, and asked for prayers for them during this difficult time.
The suspect, 24-year-old Ramon Chavez-Rodriguez, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in the death of Officer Lee. He is also facing charges for operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 2.
The loss of Officer Lee has deeply impacted the St. Louis community, and there is an outpouring of support and sympathy for his family and fellow officers. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day while serving and protecting their communities.
