Latest in Israel-Hamas conflict: Israeli air strikes in Gaza leave 7 dead, prompting south Lebanon evacuation

Israeli strikes early Tuesday in Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis killed at least seven people and injured 15 more, including women and children, according to Palestinian officials. Israel’s military stated it will take necessary action to push Hezbollah away from Lebanon’s border, leading to hundreds of airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, resulting in nearly 500 deaths and over 1,600 injuries. The violence prompted the largest exodus since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.

The attacks come amidst ongoing cross-border fire between Israel and Hezbollah, with Hezbollah launching over 100 projectiles towards Israel, resulting in two injuries. Additionally, United Arab Emirates airlines canceled flights to Lebanon due to the escalating conflict.

The war began when Hamas-led militants entered southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people and abducting around 250, with approximately 100 captives still held in Gaza.

The United Arab Emirates, which signed a recognition deal with Israel in 2020, is home to a large Lebanese population. The situation remains volatile, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting over 41,000 Palestinian deaths since the conflict began, with approximately half being women and children.

Israel maintains that it aims to minimize civilian casualties in its strikes, though rarely comments on individual incidents. The ongoing violence has caused widespread devastation and displacement, with the international community calling for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
