A federal jury in Texas has cleared a group of former President Donald Trump supporters of political intimidation charges in a civil trial over a “Trump Train” incident that surrounded a Biden-Harris campaign bus days before the 2020 election. The trial, which lasted two weeks, focused on whether the actions of the Trump supporters amounted to intimidation. Former Democratic lawmaker Wendy Davis, who was aboard the bus, testified that she feared for her life during the incident. The jury awarded $10,000 to the bus driver but found the rest of the defendants not liable for their actions. Civil rights advocates had hoped for a guilty verdict to send a message about political violence and intimidation. The incident occurred on Oct. 20, 2020, as the Biden-Harris campaign bus was traveling from San Antonio to Austin for an event. Video footage showed cars and trucks waving Trump flags surrounding the bus and slowing it down, causing it to come to a crawl. The bus was forced to cancel an event at Texas State University in San Marcos after multiple calls to 911 for assistance went unanswered. Davis testified that the experience was traumatic and that she felt scared and anxious throughout the ordeal. Despite the outcome of the trial, the incident has raised concerns about the potential for political violence during the election season.
