Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has vowed that Hezbollah will “pay an increasing price” for recent attacks. This comes as Israel has launched dozens of air raids on southern Lebanon, targeting towns in the Jezzine area. The Israeli military said it struck approximately 100 rocket-launchers and other infrastructure in the airstrikes, although casualties were not immediately clear. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has promised retaliation for attacks on its members in Lebanon and Syria, denouncing the bombings as crossing “all red lines”.
Tensions have escalated between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israeli leaders warning of a potential larger military operation against the group. Nasrallah acknowledged that Hezbollah had suffered a significant blow from recent blasts that killed 37 people and wounded nearly 3,000. Hamas has expressed gratitude for Hezbollah’s support, frustrating Israel’s efforts to undermine the support for resistance in Gaza.
The White House has emphasized the need for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to “lower the temperature” in the region, while remaining firm against Iran-backed threats. Lebanese authorities have found that the devices used in recent attacks were implanted with explosives before arriving in the country and were detonated via electronic messages. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has been ongoing since Israel’s assault on Gaza in October. Recent events, including the killing of a Hezbollah commander in Beirut and a Hamas leader in Tehran, have raised fears of further escalation in the region.
