Parents demand transparency following attempted murder charges laid on student apprehended near Northwest HS

A Montgomery County teen, Jaiden Ochieng, was arrested near Northwest High School campus last Friday in connection to an incident back in March where he attempted to shoot a 15-year-old. Ochieng has been charged with possession of a gun on school grounds, among other charges. Principal Scott Smith sent a letter to parents informing them of the incident and assuring them that there was no ongoing threat to the school. Ochieng is being charged as an adult and is being held without bond. Parents and teachers have expressed concerns about the lack of transparency from the school district regarding safety and security. Valerie Davis of the Black Coalition for Excellence in Education in Montgomery County called for greater transparency and collaboration between the district, parents, and staff to address safety concerns. The Montgomery County Education Association emphasized the need for investments in mental health resources to prevent violent incidents from occurring. The incident has raised questions about reporting responsibilities and communication between schools and families. The community is urged to work together to ensure the safety of students and educators. FOX 5 is continuing to follow the case.
