Braves pitcher Reynaldo López placed back on injured list due to shoulder inflammation

The Atlanta Braves suffered a setback in their playoff aspirations as All-Star pitcher Reynaldo López was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. López, who has been a key performer for the Braves this season, left the game after just one inning with reduced fastball velocity. While the MRI showed no structural damage, López will be out until midway through the final week of the regular season.

The Braves, who are currently half a game behind the Mets for the NL’s final wild-card spot, have faced numerous injuries to key players this season, including Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider. Despite these setbacks, the team has remained in playoff contention.

In response to López’s injury, the Braves made a series of moves, including recalling right-handed reliever Daysbel Hernández and adding infielder Cavan Biggio to the major league roster. Biggio, who has played for Toronto and the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, comes with a combined .197 batting average, five home runs, and 19 RBIs.

The Braves have faced challenges in fielding a competitive lineup due to injuries, with three players cut by other teams this season included in recent starting lineups. The team remains hopeful for López’s return as they continue to push for a postseason berth.
