The funeral for Investigator Wayne David, a 25-year veteran of the D.C. police force who died in the line of duty on Aug. 29, will take place on Thursday at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. The Metropolitan Police Department has announced road closures to accommodate the funeral procession, which will pass through parts of Northeast D.C. and Prince George’s County between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The road closures will affect several areas including Allentown Road, the Capital Beltway, US-50, New York Avenue, and Bladensburg Road. Motorists in these areas should expect delays and seek alternative routes. The department has asked drivers to proceed with caution due to increased pedestrian traffic.
The department has expressed gratitude to the Prince George’s County Police Department and Maryland State Police for their assistance in honoring Officer David’s life and service. His dedication to the force over 25 years has left a lasting impact on the department and the community. The investigation into the accidental shooting, in which a firearm misfired while Officer David was retrieving it, is ongoing.
Fellow first responders have paid their respects as Officer David’s body was transported to a Forestville funeral home. The community is encouraged to follow D.C. Police Traffic on X for updates on traffic conditions during the funeral procession.
