Images from the tragic events of 9/11, never before seen by the public, are now on display at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Photographer Bob Pugh, who was at the Pentagon on that fateful day, captured the chaos and heroism as it unfolded. Pugh describes the experience as a turning point in history that forever changed the world. The exhibit, titled “Still Standing-Still Free,” features over 50 powerful images showcasing the aftermath of the terrorist attack, including the blazing fire, smoke, and debris from the airplane, as well as the urgent response from first responders.
Curator Sean Kelley, another contributing photographer, recalls the surreal moment when a plane flew into the Pentagon, a sight that was hard to fathom. Despite the heart-wrenching scenes depicted in the images, the exhibit aims to educate the community and serve as a reminder of the resilience and strength that emerged in the face of tragedy.
Wes Mehr, general manager at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, expresses gratitude for hosting such a significant collection that commemorates the past while educating the public. The exhibit will be open to the public until October 30, 2024, during regular Fashion Centre hours. Visitors have been moved to tears by the emotional impact of the images and stories on display, highlighting the importance of remembering the bravery and sacrifices made on that day. The exhibit stands as a poignant tribute to the resilience and heroism that emerged from the tragic events of 9/11.
