Joseph Couch, suspect in Kentucky I-75 shooting, remains at-large

The search for Joseph Couch, accused of injuring five people in a shooting on a Kentucky highway, has entered its fifth day as authorities comb through the dense forest terrain of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Couch, who had planned to harm many people before taking his own life, faces multiple charges and remains at large.

The rugged landscape of the forest, which spans over 700,000 acres and 21 Kentucky counties, along with the presence of cliffs, sinkholes, caves, venomous snakes, and dense brush, is hampering search efforts. Law enforcement officials have deployed helicopters, drones, and dogs to locate Couch, who disappeared into the forest after the shooting.

The community of London and Laurel County remains on edge as schools remain closed and the search continues. The challenging terrain and vastness of the area present unique obstacles for search crews, with the forest described as “like a jungle” by public affairs officer Scottie Pennington.

Despite the difficult conditions, law enforcement officials are hopeful that Couch will eventually surrender himself or be located. The previous successful search for a missing person in the forest highlights the resilience of search teams in the face of such challenges. The manhunt for Couch in the Daniel Boone National Forest is ongoing as authorities work to ensure the safety of the community and bring the suspect to justice.
