At least 14 people, including two children and a woman, were killed in an Israeli air strike on a school in Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, according to reports from the Palestinian Civil Defence agency and hospital officials. The attack on the United Nations-run al-Jaouni school occurred while people were waiting for food, causing widespread destruction and casualties. This is the sixth school to be targeted by Israeli forces since August 1.
In a separate attack near Khan Younis, 11 people were killed when an Israeli strike hit a home, including six siblings from the same family. Additional air raids targeted a group of people waiting to buy bread, resulting in more casualties. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has taken a toll on civilians, with thousands displaced and seeking shelter in schools.
Despite the violence, a polio vaccination campaign continues in Gaza’s north, with UN health workers facing challenges due to Israeli attacks. Over 530,000 children have been vaccinated so far, with efforts underway to reach all children under 10. The campaign aims to vaccinate 200,000 more children in the hardest-hit areas of Gaza, following the successful vaccination of children in central and south Gaza.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with tens of thousands of casualties and widespread destruction from the 11-month conflict. UNRWA continues to provide vital health services in the face of challenges, highlighting the resilience and determination of the Palestinian people in the midst of ongoing hostilities.
