Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been ordered by a Texas judge to turn over personal assets to help pay a debt that has reached over $12 million. The debt stems from a lawsuit filed against Peterson over a $5.2 million loan he failed to repay, resulting in interests and fees that more than doubled the debt. A court-appointed receiver has been seeking to collect money from Peterson, asking a judge to allow constables to accompany him to Peterson’s home in Missouri City to inventory assets that can be sold off.
Peterson’s attorneys have not responded to requests for comment. In February, they filed court documents to prevent the auction of items seized from Peterson’s storage units, including his 2007 NFL “Rookie of the Year” trophy. A judge later ordered the receiver to stop the sale of these items.
Peterson, a four-time All-Pro running back who played for several NFL teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Washington Football Team, made seven Pro Bowls during his career and was named the NFL’s most valuable player by the Associated Press in 2012. He currently plays for the Seattle Seahawks.
The judge’s decision to grant the request for constable accompaniment marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Peterson and the court-appointed receiver over the repayment of the debt. This latest development underscores the challenges Peterson faces in resolving his financial obligations and highlights the high stakes involved in the legal proceedings.
