New evidence found in DC officer’s death: gun discovered in storm drain, abandoned shoe found

Court documents obtained by FOX 5 reveal new details in the investigation into the death of DC police investigator Wayne David. The documents show that 27-year-old Tyrell Lamont Bailey is accused of dumping the handgun that misfired, killing David. Images released by the Metropolitan Police Department show Bailey fleeing from officers and leaving behind his shoe after the incident. The firearm used in the shooting had its serial number scratched off.

According to the court documents, a witness came forward and admitted to unknowingly helping Bailey flee the scene. The witness picked Bailey up on a motorcycle and drove him to a 7-Eleven, where Bailey made unanswered phone calls. After refusing to drive Bailey to another location, the witness drove away. The witness later saw on Instagram that a police officer had been killed and that the suspect fled on a motorcycle matching their own. The witness provided photos of their motorcycle, which matched surveillance footage from the 7-Eleven.

Another witness, who reportedly knew Bailey for his entire life, contacted MPD and identified Bailey from the released photos. Bailey, who had served 10 years in prison, turned himself in on Wednesday night. He now faces charges in connection with David’s death.

This new information sheds light on the moments leading up to David’s tragic death and the subsequent investigation. The community mourns the loss of the veteran officer as details continue to emerge in this case.
