A media company, Tenet Media, was allegedly part of a Russian election interference plot. The company featured interviews with prominent Republicans such as Lara Trump, Rep. Brian Mast, and Harmeet Dhillon among others. Some videos were removed after the allegations surfaced, and one host, Benny Johnson, claimed to be a victim in the Russian plot. The Department of Justice alleges that unregistered foreign agents for Russia created Tenet Media to influence the 2024 election.
The interviews often highlighted Republican talking points and criticized Democratic politicians. Some guests accused politicians of military misconduct and involvement in fraud schemes. The Department of Justice did not name the beneficiary of the Russian misinformation plot, but documents suggest that Russia favored the Republican Party and wanted Trump re-elected over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, and during the 2016 election, Russia interfered to benefit Trump, although no conspiracy was found with his campaign. Democrats have supported military aid for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, but some Republicans, including Trump, have criticized this funding. The Russian documents referred to Democrats as left-wing globalists advocating for moral perversion, while Republicans were seen as protecting traditional American values. The documents suggested that Republicans supported a more pro-Russian agenda.
