The Washington County Fair, held in Marietta, kicked off with competitors showcasing their animals on Friday. The Bohlin family, with three generations of history in the competition, is participating once again. The children, Emmy, Kas, and Camden, are presenting their shorthorn cows at the fair, alongside their father Kurt. The family enjoys the fair as a vacation and a learning experience for the children, who are involved in 4-H programs. The Perry family is also participating for the first time, with Geneva and her sons preparing their cows and goat for weigh-in. Geneva hopes the experience will help her children grow comfortable around animals and build confidence in handling them. Both families highlighted the educational and bonding aspects of participating in the fair, with the children enjoying the opportunity to show their animals and also have fun on the fair rides. The fair runs until Tuesday, offering a chance for families to come together and celebrate agriculture and animal husbandry. Contact Gwen Sour for more information.
