A 35-year-old Moroccan man known for crimes against people and property, as well as a previous knife attack in France, was deported from Italy on 29 August. The man, who had recently been arrested for serious offences in Lucca, Italy, was accompanied to Casablanca by Italian police after being handed over to Moroccan authorities.
The deportation was carried out after a court rejected his appeal and his residence permit was not renewed. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed the news on social media. The man’s criminal activities included a robbery knife attack in May, resulting in injuries to three people, one of whom suffered permanent facial deformation. Following the incident, he was under constant monitoring by the country’s Counter-Terrorism Unit.
This is not the first time Italian authorities have deported convicted individuals to Morocco. Just in June, the Brescia Court of Appeal approved the deportation of another Moroccan man for cybercrimes. In 2020, an imam was expelled for his support of the Islamic State group, citing reasons of state security.
The deportation of individuals with criminal histories underscores Italy’s commitment to maintaining public safety and security. The expulsion of the 35-year-old Moroccan man, in particular, highlights the country’s efforts to combat terrorism and serious crimes.
