The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC title game rematch on Thursday night to kick off the NFL season. The Chiefs will have newly acquired JuJu Smith-Schuster and Samaje Perine on their roster, but wide receiver Marquise Brown will not be playing due to a shoulder injury. Smith-Schuster was signed after being released by the Patriots, while Perine joined the team after being released by the Broncos.
Despite his shoulder injury, Brown is expected to return to the lineup within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, the Chiefs will rely on second-year pro Rashee Rice and first-round pick Xavier Worthy, along with veterans Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman to lead the wide receiver corps.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid expressed confidence that both Smith-Schuster and Perine will be able to contribute against the Ravens. Smith-Schuster previously played for the Chiefs, helping them reach the Super Bowl two years ago. He signed a three-year contract with the Patriots but struggled with knee issues during his time there.
Reid also commended the team’s wide receiver rotation, highlighting the potential impact of the younger players like Worthy who have yet to play in a regular-season NFL game. Despite uncertainties, Reid is optimistic about the team’s depth and ability to compete with the Ravens in what is expected to be a highly anticipated season opener.
