General Manager of the Washington Commanders explains the motive behind the trade with the New Orleans Saints

The Washington Commanders have made a move to trade defensive tackle John Ridgeway III to the New Orleans Saints in a draft pick swap. General manager Adam Peters explained that the decision was based on the interest in Ridgeway from other teams and the opportunity for him to play more in New Orleans. With Ridgeway gone, the Commanders will rely on Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Phidarian Mathis, and rookie Johnny Newton at the defensive tackle position.

The Commanders will face Ridgeway and the Saints in Week 15 on Dec. 15 in New Orleans. Fans can stay updated on the team by following CommanderGameday and the Locked On Commanders podcast for free coverage throughout the 2024 season. In other news, a former Commanders cornerback has been claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers, the team is closer to finalizing their 53-man roster after waiving a well-liked quarterback, and the Commanders have announced a multi-year naming-rights deal. Additionally, a Commanders quarterback has made a jersey number change.

This trade marks a significant adjustment for the Commanders as they look to strengthen their defensive line going forward. It will be interesting to see how Ridgeway performs with the Saints and how the Commanders will fare without him in the lineup.
