Former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio has joined the staff at the University of Wisconsin as a senior adviser to head coach Luke Fickell. Del Rio will work with both the offense and defense to assist Fickell, bringing his years of experience to the role. Del Rio most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders before being fired mid-season. With a 12-year NFL head coaching career under his belt, including time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders, Del Rio brings a wealth of knowledge to the Badgers.
Wisconsin, coming off two consecutive 7-6 seasons, opens the second season of Fickell’s tenure with a game against Western Michigan. This marks the first time since 2016 that the Badgers are beginning the year outside of the Associated Press Top 25 rankings. This new addition to the coaching staff could bring fresh perspective and expertise to help Wisconsin improve and compete at a higher level in the upcoming season.
