Identifying the Future Stars of Coaching Worldwide: Part 2

A new generation of influential football managers from outside of Europe is making a name for themselves as global standards rise in the sport. While European managers have long been considered the best in the world, coaches from other regions are starting to catch the eye.

One example is Singapore’s Gavin Lee, who manages both a Singapore Premier League club and serves as an assistant coach for the national team. In Africa, Rhulani Mokwena and Emerse Fae have also achieved success with club and national teams, with Fae leading Cote d’Ivoire to an African Cup of Nations victory in 2023.

Despite the challenges international coaches face in moving to top-tier European clubs, there is a growing recognition of their talent and potential. With an established global pathway for talented players, it is likely that we will see more managers from outside Europe taking charge of teams in the top five European leagues in the near future.

As the game of football becomes more globalized, the influence and impact of coaches from diverse backgrounds are becoming increasingly valued and sought after. The rise of these non-European managers is a testament to the evolving nature of football and the opportunities available to those with talent and dedication, regardless of their origin.
