Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for not formally sitting down with the press since launching her presidential campaign. She is set to have her first interview with CNN’s Dana Bash alongside her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz. The Harris campaign defended this decision by pointing to a precedent of presidential candidates appearing with their running mates in joint interviews. They have stated that Harris will do solo interviews at a later date, but no specifics have been provided. Some, including Meghan McCain and Harris’ opponents, have criticized the decision to have Walz present during the interview, questioning Harris’ ability to lead on her own. Calls have been made for Harris to engage in a live and solo interview. The interview with CNN will be Harris’ first since President Joe Biden stepped out of the race and she took on the mantle. Harris is scheduled to appear on primetime for the pre-recorded interview, which will air at 9 p.m. ET.
