The Washington Commanders have finalized their 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season, but they have already made a move to create some flexibility. The team has agreed to a trade with the New Orleans Saints, sending defensive tackle John Ridgeway III and a 2025 7th-round pick in exchange for a 2025 6th-round pick from the Saints. Ridgeway, a third-year player who appeared in all three preseason games for the Commanders, has shown promise on the field. He was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 and claimed off waivers by Washington. In 2023, Ridgeway had a career-high 31 tackles and a pass deflection. The Commanders had Ridgeway listed as the backup to Daron Payne at defensive tackle, indicating a possible depth chart change and roster addition in the near future. This trade comes just days after the team finalized their roster cuts, and it shows that they are continuing to make moves to improve the team heading into the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
